Sweat Reduction

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) results from overactive sweat glands and is not related to weight, ethnicity or climate. It usually affects the underarms, palms, face and soles of the feet, and commonly begins in adolescence.

This may be a result of an increase in impulses from the central nervous system, or it may reflect underlying problems with the sweat glands. A relation to emotional stress is often noted, and the problem becomes disabling if it interferes with work or social interactions.

Sweating is one of the most important ways through which the body loses heat; it is a natural and normal process. However, people who have abnormal sweating patterns find that they produce sweat in amounts far greater than the body actually needs. Their hands, feet, chest or armpits may be constantly damp, making everyday activities more difficult to carry out, and causing potential embarrassment in work or social situations.

A simple and effective treatment for excessive sweating involves the muscle relaxant Botulinum Toxin*. Severe perspiration can be controlled by using this treatment to temporarily block the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.

The solution is injected into the affected area. Your doctor will determine how many injections are necessary based on an assessment of the area that needs to be treated. Once you’ve begun treatment, you should notice a significant reduction in sweating within 2-4 weeks.

The effects last for 6-12 months, leaving you feeling more confident and able to enjoy life without worrying about getting hot and bothered any more.

Symptoms return gradually, so it is easy to know when the time is right for additional treatment.

The cost of the procedure is dependent on the amount of solution necessary and the area to be treated. The average price range will start from approximately $1000.
