Liposuction Techniques
Tumescent
The tumescent technique is a relatively new liposuction method that can reduce postoperative bruising, swelling and pain. Because blood loss is minimised during tumescent liposuction, use of the technique reduces the chance that a blood transfusion will be needed.
In the tumescent technique, areas of excess fat are injected with a large amount of anaesthetic liquid before liposuction is performed. The liquid causes the compartments of fat to become swollen and firm or "tumesced." The expanded fat compartments allow the liposuction canula to travel smoothly beneath the skin as the fat is removed.

Ultra-sound Assisted
Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL) is a technique where ultrasound energy is applied to the fat via the suction instrument. The ultrasound energy breaks up and/or melts the fat before it is suctioned out.
The use of UAL allows safer removal of larger amounts of fat than with standard liposuction. This increase in safety is due to the reduced amount of blood removed with UAL.

Super-Wet
This liposuction technique uses a saline solution that contains a local anaesthetic and adrenaline that is injected into the area the patient wishes to be treated. The solution allows the fat deposits to break up easier so that the surgeon can extract it.
In addition, the extra fluid minimises trauma that can occur to the surrounding tissue. This allows for a reduced amount of pain as well as swelling. Certain risks are reduced with the super-wet liposuction technique because the solution containing adrenaline decreases bleeding during the procedure.
