Laser Skin-Resurfacing

The decision to use laser to improve your skin is based on your skin type, skin thickness, desired result, available recovery time, and any history of previous skin resurfacing procedures.

In Laser Skin-Resurfacing, a carbon dioxide laser emits an infrared light that vapourises the upper layers of damaged skin at specific and controlled levels of penetration.

The laser is used with great precision and is most commonly used to minimise the appearance of fine lines, especially around the mouth and the eyes.  However, it is also effective in treating facial scars or areas of uneven pigmentation.

Laser Skin-Resurfacing is done in the operating room and most people receive some IV sedation and local anaesthesia. As the laser is applied to the skin, a small burning sensation may be felt.

Laser Resurfacing may be performed on any part of the body, including the eyes, mouth, face, neck, chest, and hands. Often, the procedure is done in conjunction with another cosmetic operation such as a facelift, browlift, midface lift, necklift, fat transfer, facial implants, or eyelid surgery.

Laser Resurfacing may offer a number of advantages over other resurfacing methods: precision, little (if any) bleeding, and less post-operative discomfort. However, laser resurfacing isn't for everyone.  In some cases, an alternative skin resurfacing treatment, such as dermabrasion or

chemical peel, may still be a better choice.

Laser Skin Resurfacing can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on the size of the area to be treated. The skin will be covered with ointment for several days to a week after surgery until the damaged skin sloughs off and the new skin grows in.

It is imperative to wear sunblock and avoid sun exposure for at least 6 months after the procedure. It will take up to two weeks for your face to heal after this procedure so time off work will be necessary.

Average Cost: $2000-$4500
