Facial Implants

Facial contouring, using carefully styled implants, can create a more attractive, harmonious balance of your facial features.

Facial implants are available for reconstructive or cosmetic purposes. There are many implants available, manufactured from a variety of materials including silicone. The implants are available in a wide range of sizes and styles for the jaw, nose, cheek and chin. Facial implants add and/or restore facial symmetry and balance features.

Facial implants can be used alone or in conjunction with other facial procedures.

Facial implant procedures can take up to two hours and are usually performed at the surgeon’s office or an outpatient surgical center.

Though facial implant surgery may require only local anaesthetic, more often, general anaesthesia is recommended.  An incision is placed near where the implant will be inserted, a pocket is made in the facial tissue, the implant placed, and the incision stitched.

If possible, incisions are made where scars will be out of sight or inconspicuous. Chin and cheek implant incisions are usually in the mouth or through small cuts under the chin and lip augmentation is done through incisions behind the lips.

Problems rarely occur after facial implant surgery, but you need to be informed about such possibilities. Implants sometimes shift slightly out of position necessitating a second surgery. If infection happens and does not respond to antibiotics, the implant might have to be temporarily removed and replaced in another surgery.
