Craniofacial Surgery

Craniofacial surgery involves the treatment of individuals with severe facial deformities resulting from birth, accidents, or the removal of tumours.

It involves the reconstruction of the soft tissues and bones of the face and skull to improve appearance and function. Craniofacial surgery focuses on the correction of deformities of the bones of the skull and face and includes the investigation, preservation, and restoration of craniofacial form and function by medical and surgical means.

For children with congenital birth or acquired disorders of the face, mouth and head, plastic surgeons can help correct imperfections. Craniofacial birth defects can be varied, but usually involve some aspect of an abnormally shaped skull.
