Buttocks Liposuction

Using micro-canulas and the tumescent technique, the size and shape of the buttocks can be improved, and can produce symmetric and smooth results.

The goal of liposuction of the buttocks is to achieve uniformly smooth results with a pleasing reduction in size and bulk.

Liposuction cannot be expected to lift or elevate the buttocks to any noticeable degree but by removing some of the weight of the buttocks, the natural elastic recoil of skin has the potential to produce a slight elevation. In older patients whose skin has lost some of its youthful elastic qualities, there is usually very little  elevation.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes a tiny incision in the skin, typically in or near the buttocks crease, and inserts a canula into the fatty area. Micro-canulas have a diameter of less than 3 mm or less than 1/8 of an inch. The canula is used to break up the fat deposits and sculpt the area to the desired proportions. The unwanted fat is suctioned out with a powerful vacuum, leaving the skin, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels intact.

On average, the procedure takes 1-2 hours. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, either in your doctor’s office or in an outpatient clinic. It may be performed under local anaesthesia with light sedation, local anaesthesia and deep sedation, or general anaesthesia. You will be allowed to return home within a few hours of the surgery.

Most of the bruising and swelling should subside within three weeks. To speed the healing process and to reduce the likelihood of post-operative complications, your surgeon will probably tell you to begin light activity as soon as possible. You should be able to return to work within a few days if your work is fairly sedentary. Strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks as your body heals, but within 6 weeks you should be able to resume all normal activities.

You should see the visible results of your surgery within two or three weeks, but the full effects may not be evident for six months to a year. The more fat you have removed, the longer it takes for your skin to adapt to the change in shape.
